After a break, you will drive and visit the Corinth Canal. A marvel of architecture constructed in the 1800s allowed the connection of the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, arguably making the peninsula an island.
The canal was dug through the Isthmus at sea level and has no locks. It is 6.4 kilometers in length and only 21.4 meters wide at its base. A lot of private ships – sailboats and cruisers but also some commercial ships use the canal to pass from the Aegean to the Ionian Sea and vice versa.
